- Lakhs of people attend Kodad meeting as campaign concludes
- Make this election last for TRS, appeals Naidu
- Uttam accuses KCR of using ill-gotten money in elections
Kodad, December 5: “We will deliver Telangana of your dreams. It will be your voice that will control the State. Telangana will not be run by one family, but by the people,” promised Congress president Rahul Gandhi while addressing a mammoth gathering at Bypass Ground in Kodad on the last day of election campaign on Wednesday.
Lakhs of people attended the meeting organised by Padmavathi Reddy, People’s Front contestant from Kodad and wife of TPCC President Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. The gathering was huge that it led to traffic jam on Vijayawada Highway for several hours.
Showing people clouds in the sky, Rahul Gandhi said similar clouds have formed in Telangana politics and there would be a cyclone of change soon. ‘Ye badlav ka toofan aayega’, he said and added, “We want to stand with you to complete the task of building a new golden Telangana. We want to listen to you and run the government,” he said.
Rahul Gandhi had begun the speech saying that the people of Telangana had seen a dream about five years ago. “Women, farmers and youth have shed their sweat and blood to achieve statehood. But all their dreams have been shattered by KCR,” he said. People of Telangana did not get ‘Neellu, Nidhulu and Niyamakulu (water, jobs and funds) and also lost their self-respect, he said.
The Congress president said KCR had come to Nalgonda a few days ago and he announced that he wanted to adopt the district. “I think wherever he goes, he says the same thing. If you want to adopt, then adopt the farmers’ of Telangana, adopt youth of Telangana and adopt the families who lost their loved ones for statehood cause. More than 4,500 farmers committed suicide in the last four-and-a-half years. Nearly 33 lakh youth are jobless. There are lakhs of people waiting for double bed room houses and three acres of land. You should adopt all of them,” Rahul Gandhi told KCR.
Rahul Gandhi said TRS Govt did neither helped the farmers nor youth. He said KCR escalated the cost of various projects in the name of re-designing and therefore, people of Telangana gave him a new name “Khao Commission Rao”. He said while every family in Telangana has been pushed into debts of Rs. 2.5 lakh each, the income of KCR’s son KTR has increased by over 400% in the last four years.
“Only KCR family got all the benefits and people of Telangana suffered only losses. You are drinking mineral water, but people of Nalgonda are still drinking flouride-affected water,” he said. He announced that the Sriram Sagar project would be revived and people of erstwhile Nalgonda district would be provided safe drinking water.
Rahul Gandhi said KCR during his first visit to Nalgonda had promised to establish a hospital. He came to Nalgonda a few days ago and repeated the promise. “What you left unfilled, will be implemented by us and we will construct the hospital for people of Nalgonda,” he said. He also promised to implement crop loan waiver, better prices of all crops, implementation of Land Acquisition Act and restoration of powers to Gram Panchayats.
“Chief Minister of our government will spend 18 hours to provide jobs. Youth power is being wasted now and we will utilise by giving jobs. All jobless youth will be given Rs. 3,000 allowance every month. 20% of budget will be allocated for education. There will be new colleges, universities and schools and your children will get admissions in all the institutions. Every mandal will get a 30-bedded hospital and people will get free treatment up to Rs. 5 lakh,” he promised and said that the Congress-led People’s Front would create a new golden Telangana with people’s power.
Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narender Modi of creating a divide among people on the basis of religion and region. He said Modi has reduced the power and might of India. Calling TRS as T-RSS, he said after defeating KCR in Hyderabad, the coalition would defeat Modi in Delhi. He said Modi has given public money to Anil Ambani, Neerav Modi and Mallaya. “We will bring back money from them and distribute it among people,” he said.
Praising the spirit of people of Telangana, he said people had achieved Telangana and now it was the responsibility of all to make it prosper. “On every product, we see the tag ‘Made in China’. I want to see the tag ‘Made in Telangana’ and ‘Made in Nalgonda’. That will be the real dream of Telangana,” he said.
It will be a Congress CM, I’ve come to support people: Naidu
Highly impressed with the crowd, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP President Chandrababu Naidu said he had not seen such a huge crowd in a public meeting in his entire life. He said such a large gathering was a clear indication was people were sending TRS home. Polling is on December 7 and KCR will retire permanently on December 11 after declaration of results. Asking cadre of Congress, TDP, TJS and CPI to work together, he expressed confidence that the TRS candidate in Kodad would not secure deposit against Congress candidate Padmavathi Reddy.
Chandrababu Naidu also condemned the arrest of TPCC Working President Revanth Reddy at past mid-night and described it as un-democratic. He said that police behaviour was condemned even by the court. Stating that such actions reflect the way KCR was running the government, he said people should not fear such things and fight like a tiger.
Replying to KCR’s criticism, Naidu said he had come to Telangana for the people and not for him. “KCR is asking the need for TDP. If there was no TDP where you would have been? You are a leader today because of TDP,” he said adding that KCR’s was speaking in a highly arrogant tone. However, he said KCR has realised that there was a wave against TRS in Telangana and therefore, he was now speaking under a sense of insecurity and fear of defeat.
Naidu said he had come to Telangana to support people in developing Telangana. “It will be a Congress Chief Minister after elections,” he said and condemned KCR for accusing him of creating hurdles in development of Telangana.
TDP president said there is a ‘Senior Modi’ in Delhi and ‘Junior Modi’ in Hyderabad. Both are working in tandem and enacting dramas to cheat people. KCR is a friend with MIM during the day and with BJP in the night, he said.
He also slammed Modi Government for rising intolerance in the country, demonetisation and GST. “BJP have no votes or seats in Telangana. But its leaders are roaming around in helicopters,” he said adding that there were only fronts in the country. One front is of PM Modi and another is the one which Congress, TDP and other parties have formed. TRS and MIM should speak out on which side they are standing.
“Both TDP and Congress regimes have developed Hyderabad. They brought Hitech City, Cyberabad, airport, outer ring road, Krishna River water to Hyderabad, etc., KCR should specify what he has done so far? KCR has only constructed the farm house where he will retire after elections,” he said while appealing people to make December 7 polling as last elections for TRS.
Referring to KCR’s outburst on people when he was question on double bed room houses and 12% Muslim reservation, he said KCR’s comments were a direct attack on people due to fear of defeat. “KCR never came to Secretariat and never met people to solve their problems. Now he is moving in helicopter to all areas seeking votes,” he said.
Uttam promises welfare of all sections
Uttam Kumar Reddy, in his speech, said that he and his wife Padmavathi Reddy have been serving the people of Kodad and Huzurnagar for the last two-and-a-half decades with total honesty and dedication. He said both himself and his wife were committed to serve to people throughout their lives.
Uttam Kumar Reddy promised that the next government of People’s Front would waive off crop loans up to Rs. 2 lakh in a single take. He said pension for all categories of beneficiaries will be doubled. The age limit for Old Age Pensions will be reduced from present 65 years to 58 years and both husband and wife will be given pension. He said one lakh government jobs would be given and another one lakh job in private sector would be created. Jobless youth will be given Unemployment Allowance of Rs. 3,000 per month. He said nearly 6 lakh women Self Help Groups would be given Rs. 1 lakh grant and Rs. 10 lakh interest-free bank loans would be arranged.
The TPCC President said that poor Dalits and Girijans would be supplied free power up to 200 units and they would also get total ration free. All White Ration Card holders will get 6 LPG cylinders at free of cost.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said that KCR family has looted Telangana during the last four-and-a-half years and now using the same money to win elections. He asked people to be cautious for the next two days and foil any attempts by TRS to lure them with money and other freebies. He alleged that the TRS was shifted huge cash in the vehicles of a television news channel, police and even ambulances. He said such attempts must be foiled and people should be alert till polling is over.
The meeting was also addressed by CPI Secretary Survaram Sudhakar Reddy and other leaders.
